It is if you've played 8-9 games in 30 days and your opposition only 3 in 21. The mind will be willing, but the body just wont be at it's best against far fresher players. It takes it's toll, and all it takes it to be at only 95% instead of 100% and you start to run into problems. Adrenaline passion and desire only gets you so far. It's just a fact.

To put it another way, you run 10 marathons in 20 days, you ain't going to perform nearly as well in the last couple as the first couple, no matter how hard you try or will yourself on.

This game has got Metz written all over it. We will expect them to score, but when they do it will be too late. I am very confident we will get the job done here.

It's almost as if our away win in Lyon never happened.

With the goal advantage and away from home, the initiative is with the opposition - which comes with extra pressure. We could find ourselves playing in a more relaxed fashion which may help us play more fluidly. I’d be surprised if it ends up being a backs to the wall job.

Re: ⚽ AZ Akmaar v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
Most games under Moyes this season have been back to wall jobs, it's how we play most of the time when starting level, what makes you think starting in the lead will change that?

What the Lyon match where we won away 3-0 having just lost away to Brentford 2-0 four days beforehand?

Bruuuno and bondholder if you are genuinely west ham you should be embarrassed by those posts . One straight after the other screams suspicious and in all likelihood Tottenham .

the game on thursday is set up a treat for Moyes.

They have to come after the game (admittedly i can imagine them trying to see the first half out at 0-0 then going for it). but that mean he can set us up solidly, and attack on the counter, as he absolutely loves!

Danger is if they score early and we suddenly have to try and play some football!

We have an ageing squad. It's no surprise we look better when the team has a break in between matches . Bournemouth arsenal and man utd all point that way .

Hardly, I’m just a realist. Think Birmingham in the League Cup. Of course I hope we win because all my flights/accom is booked and I'm guaranteed a ticket.

I think we need 15 new players next season. if we bring the boys up to the first team, 12 new players still needed. sundays match showed our squad not good enough.

Re: ⚽ AZ Akmaar v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
We were the better team last time and like Gent if we play close to our potential for any decent portion of the game, we get will the result we need.

Anything can happen, but we are massive favourites for a reason.

One thing we can be sure of is that it won't be pretty, but we're all well used to that by now under Moyes. But I can't see them having enough to seriously trouble us, even with home advantage and a couple of their best players coming back. Yes, they'll get the odd half chance but I am certain we will score and force a dour victory.

Really, most of that team got us through the group stages. That showed that playing games in the group stages and cup made them play better. Moyes hasn't played them or the good youngsters at all this calendar year,we're in May where the season normally has finished.
